The Duluth News Tribune looked at federal and state data on loans, contracts and grants to gain an understanding of how much was allocated in stimulus dollars to Duluth, Proctor, Cloquet, Hermantown, Two Harbors and Superior.

While the data reviewed showed $125.5 million in local allocations, the amount designated for the Duluth area is probably higher, as the data reviewed didn't show all local expenditures. Several million dollars provided to the University of Minnesota Duluth for tuition assistance, for example, was not listed in state or federal data.

Of the $218 billion in stimulus money awarded across the country, about $3.6 billion has been awarded in Minnesota, creating an estimated 12,566 jobs, according to recovery.gov.
