This school year, Sibley welcomes a new principal, Mr. Ryan Redetzke. Mr. Redetzke's path to school administration was an interesting one, as he did not immediately go into education, but spent time working in other fields before finding his way to school administration.
Redetzke grew up in Hutchinson, Minnesota. He was raised by two teachers, so education always seemed like an option for a career, but he did not study education right after graduating high school. He went to Gustavus Adolphus College where he studied Spanish and Political Science. He later worked with a Non-Governmental Organization in Washington D.C. He taught Spanish and Social Studies, and started to get involved in various "whole school" initiatives which would inspire him to pursue administration. After teaching, he was an assistant principal in Wisconsin for six years ; however, he found himself with a desire to move back home. There were many reasons for wanting to return home, but one of the big factors for him was that his parents were still in Minnesota.
When Mr. Redetzke moved back to Minnesota, he became the assistant principal at Faribault High School. Eventually, looking for a greater challenge and opportunity, Redetzke applied for the principal position at Sibley. He was very interested in working at Sibley for a variety of reasons. He believes there are great opportunities at Sibley. He also really appreciates the diversity of the school. He believes that students are able to benefit immensely from learning in a diverse community. He says that because a school with greater diversity is more representative of the world we live in, students come out better rounded, and more culturally and socially aware of the world.
We extend a warm welcome to Mr. Redetske and look forward to having him as principal.
