While everyone likes music, few students are as willing to jump into the mosh pit as often as East sophomore James Larson.

James frequently attends concerts in Minneapolis.

"I recently saw Animal Collective," said James. "I also saw Tortoise, Tycho, and Wilco in Minneapolis."

Besides being a fan, James is also music producer. He uses a sampler, guitar, microphone and various homemade instruments to compose his own electronic music.

"Animal Collective has influenced my music the most", said James. "I also like Boards of Canada, Deerhunter, Madlib & J Dilla."

"His music is great to dance to", said Josef Decker. "Not that I dance."

James also enjoys making movies with his friends. Films he has made include "The Haunting in Minnesota", a spin-off of "The Haunting in Connecticut", starring local actor Josef Decker, and "Comet Dust" also starring Decker.

James originally hails from Bogota, Colombia. He came to the U.S. when he was 2 months old, adopted by American citizens. James has been back to visit Bogota twice since he first left.

"Bogota is a really big city, it's really exciting", said James. "You can see the Andes Mountains from inside the city, and their size is humbling."

James has also been to Jamaica, Mexico, and Canada.

"I like to travel because it's really nice to transcend the perceptions of Americans, and see things from the views of other cultures", said James. "After graduation, I want to spend any money I have exploring various countries."
