You don't have to be a marathon runner -- or related to one -- to enjoy Grandma's Marathon weekend. There are several events perfect for folks of all ages, that don't cost a penny or require training six months of training.

Aside from simply soaking in the atmosphere of the country's 13th largest marathon, run on the shore of Lake Superior, here are three other free events you might want to plan on taking advantage of next weekend.

  • The Whipper Snapper Races start at 2 p.m. Friday at Bayfront Festival Park with the hilarious Mascots' race -- including Harley the Huskie and Viktor of the Vikings, among others -- followed by various dashes and runs for boys and girls ages four to 14 years old, who are grouped according to age. Come early to register, starting at noon.

"Watching that race is one of the best parts of the weekend," said Bob Gustafson of Grandma's Marathon. "It's one of those things: You don't know who's having more fun -- the kids or the parents watching the kids."

  • The SMDC Health System Health and Fitness Expo runs from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the DECC.
  • From 11:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Saturday, there will be free music under the Big Top Tent near Famous Dave's on Lake Avenue. All ages are welcome.
