The Minnesota Department of Transportation will host a
public meeting to discuss major improvements for Highway 23,
(Commonwealth Avenue, and the Veterans Evergreen Memorial Drive) from
the Duluth neighborhoods of Fond Du Lac to Gary - New Duluth.

Project description:
This highway resurfacing project will provide improved ride quality for
Highway 23 (also known as Commonwealth Avenue and the Veterans Evergreen

Memorial Drive) from the edge of the community of Fond Du Lac to Gary -
New Duluth. The project will:
*Widen parking lanes in the community of Gary New Duluth
*Re-configure Commonwealth Avenue in Gary - New Duluth
*Reduce road from four to two lanes, with turn lanes and paved
shoulders, between Fond Du Lac and Highway 39
*Improve roadway drainage, repair sidewalks, reconstruct
curbs, and construct pedestrian accessibility ramps.

Planned construction bid letting date: June 2009 (the contract letting date for this project is dependent on funding)
