  • Members of the Highland Mobile Home Park Tenants Association expressed outrage yesterday at a jury verdict allowing the eviction of 64 families from the park. The jurors found no merit in complaints that rent hikes were unreasonable and that evictions were unfair or retaliatory.
  • Civic leader and concert musician Muriel Lindor was named 1980 Woman of the Year yesterday at the 32nd annual Duluth Day Luncheon. Lindor, a Duluth native, has headed numerous civic organizations and has shared her musical talent at symphony concerts and other city events.

  • Late into a 3 1/2-hour meeting last night, the Duluth City Council began discussing two controversial proposals that address secondhand smoke in restaurants and other public places. The council decided to table both proposals but could reconsider the issue at its June 12 meeting.
  • In an afternoon ceremony today in South Carolina, Brig. Gen. William Bester, a Duluth native, will become the first male chief of the Army Nurse Corps. Bester grew up in West Duluth and graduated from Denfeld High School and the College of St. Scholastica.
