Western Lake Superior Sanitary District plans to open its solid waste facilities — a process that will begin in phases next week, starting with the yard waste compost site at 27th Avenue West and the waterfront in Duluth on April 30.

WLSSD officials will follow public health recommendations for social distancing, according to a news release, and are asking that customers wear a face cover, limit visits and be patient with increased wait times.

Just the disposal and recycling services will be available — not the reuse, at this time.

The WLSSD Materials and Recovery Center at Rice Lake and Ridgeview roads is scheduled to open May 5, and the Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 27th Avenue West and the waterfront opens May 7. Other facilities are to be determined.
