VERNDALE, Minn. -- A 5-year-old girl was hospitalized overnight after she was hit by a car getting off a school bus Monday night.
According to the Verndale Police Department, a Wadena-Deer Creek school bus was letting off the girl at 3:53 p.m. when she was hit. The bus driver had activated the bus's warning traffic lights before the girl got off the bus and walked around the front of it. That's when she was struck by a car driven by a 90-year-old woman.
The girl sustained minor cuts and bruises and was held overnight for observation at a local hospital.
The driver of the car was not hurt.
A Minnesota State Patrol sent commercial vehicle inspector determined the bus driver committed no violations and that the school bus was working properly, the Verndale Police Department said.
