You can pick out your own Christmas tree at the the Boulder lake Environmental Learning Center's annual Christmas Tree Cut fundraiser Saturday.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bear Paw trailhead, 20 minutes north of Duluth on Boulder Dam Road.
Attendees can purchase trees, wreath, and other items at the event. Trees and wreaths can be purchased for $15 each, or two for $25. There will also be chili for sale and complimentary cookies and hot chocolate.
The balsam fir tree thinning helps manage the many acres of forest around Boulder Lake, which lowers the risk of forest fires, the center said in a news release Friday. Balsam fir is a shade-tolerant species that tends to grow under red and white pine stands. It has the potential to be a ladder fuel tree that brings fire up into the crowns of mature pines.
Proceeds from the event go back into programming for the Boulder Lake Environmental Learning Center.
