The Duluth Police Department is asking residents and businesses near the Downtown Duluth and Central Hillside neighborhoods to look for signs of a missing 21-year-old man.

Jacob Michael Lavoie, 21, was last seen leaving Grandma's Sports Garden in Canal Park just past midnight on Sunday morning walking north toward downtown.

Lavoie is described as a white man, 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds, with strawberry blond hair and blue eyes. He was wearing a black Nike baseball hat, a red/salmon long-sleeve shirt and jeans.

The Duluth police, the Duluth Fire Department and the St. Louis County Rescue Squad are conducting searches, but are not looking for volunteers for searches at this time, police said.

Instead, police are hoping for residents and businesses near downtown to search their properties for signs of Lavoie.

"Citizens and business owners who own properties within the outlined area however, can assist in checking locations around their own immediate properties for Jacob," police said in a news release Wednesday. "In checking your properties, consider abandoned buildings, vehicles, stairwells, outbuildings, dumpsters, boats, or anywhere a person could hide."

Police said residents and businesses should also check their security camera systems on Sept. 1 from midnight to 6 a.m. for someone matching Lavoie's description.

If anyone finds something suspicious, police asks them to call 911.
