Community members are encouraged to clean out their medication cabinets for Saturday’s National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

An initiative from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the day is organized to encourage residents to safely deposit their unused or expired medications. Prescription medications were abused by 6 million people in 2017, according to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health.

Law enforcement facilities throughout the country will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to accept medications, which will be incinerated by the DEA. No needles or sharps will be accepted.

Locations include the Duluth Public Safety Building, 2030 N. Arlington Ave., where a drop-box is also available in the lobby during regular business hours.

A full list of participating locations can be found at takebackday.dea.gov.
