• Demand for housing in Duluth last year was greatest in Lakeside, Lester Park, Congdon, Hunters Park, Woodland, East End, the East Hillside, Kenwood and Duluth Heights. The average price of a home in those neighborhoods was $42,954.
• Construction will begin this spring on portions of the Western Waterfront Trail, which will stretch nine miles along the St. Louis River from Indian Point to Fond du Lac. Plans include hiking and biking trails, a boat landing and an excursion train.

• March 31 will be the official opening date for the Montreal to Lake Ontario and Welland Canal sections of the St. Lawrence Seaway. This year is the Seaway's 40th anniversary and events marking the occasion will be held this spring, including one in Duluth.
• Starting in two weeks, Duluth's Lake Superior Brewing Co. beer will become available in six-packs of bottles. Lake Superior beer is now only available in kegs, and the addition of bottles is expected to triple the brewery's business and fuel a new phase of growth.
