The City Center West Warming Center, 5830 Grand Ave., in West Duluth will be open Monday and Tuesday, with additional nights announced on a daily basis, said a CHUM news release earlier Monday.

Temperatures are expected to drop below zero for much of the week.

On Sunday night, 80 people were at CHUM and 28 at the Warming Center, CHUM said.

The warming center is open from 10 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.

“We are awed by the community’s generosity so far,” CHUM Executive Director Lee Stuart said, referring to donations the warming center has received since opening earlier this month.

The center accepts donations of hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, socks and hand warmers. All other clothing and blanket donations should go to the Damiano Center, 206 W. Fourth St.

Donation hours at Damiano are between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.

“At the warming center, we also welcome coffee, cocoa, tea, hot cider mix, fruit, snacks and food that is easily shared among 25-30 people,” Stuart said. “We don’t have a kitchen or food storage capacity. If you bring something that needs a plate, cups, napkins or utensils, please bring those things too.”

Stuart added that cough drops, lip balm and bus passes are also welcome donations.
