The Douglas County Board is considering the issuance of up to $2 million in bonds to aid industrial development in Superior. Proceeds of the bond issue would be used to buy land and build a facility to attract a new business.

The U.S. Coast Guard reported yesterday that an improper approach over a shoal caused the Dec. 22 crash of the Charles M. Beeghly into the north pier of the Duluth ship canal. The Beeghly's captain has been issued a reprimand for the incident.

Feb. 1, 1999

Morgan Park residents will vote next month on whether they want to remain eligible for National Register of Historic Places status. Living in a neighborhood that is eligible means federal fix-up dollars come with strict rules about historic renovations.

International Falls has been losing the business of companies testing the performance of their products in extreme cold conditions. In response, city and Koochiching County officials are proposing to build a new cold-weather testing facility and hire a consultant to attract clients.
