Accusations against Superior police for use of excessive force will be discussed today at a meeting of the Superior local of the Wisconsin Professional Police Association. Police officials are investigating several complaints made against arresting officers over the last few months.

The temperature at the Duluth International Airport this morning fell to a record 32 below zero, while it was ten degrees warmer downtown. Minnesota Power and Light Co. reported its station at Island Lake recorded 42 below.

Jan. 11, 1999

A group called Low-Income People Organizing for Power wants the St. Louis County Board to grant them a public hearing to testify about problems they see with the new welfare system. The Minnesota Family Investment Program replaced Aid to Families with Dependent Children in 1998.

In spite of a wind chill of 43 below, the start yesterday of the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon at Canal Park was a big hit. The Canal Park start allowed for a crowd of more than 1,000 to line both sides of the course.
