The state DFL Central Committee met in Duluth yesterday and heard party leaders call for an end to the divisiveness that led to DFL losses in November. Attorney General Warren Spannaus said single-issue voting caused the DFL's disastrous defeat.

Veteran St. Louis County Health Department sanitarian Milton Peterson will be honored on his retirement this week after 25 years of service. Peterson began with the original city of Duluth Public Health Department which merged with the county department in the 1960s.

Dec. 17, 1998

A union representation election by Duluth Clinic workers was declared too close to call yesterday. The final tally showed 392 votes for representation by the United Steelworkers of America and 345 against the union, with 76 challenged ballots.

Minnesota Gov.-elect Jesse Ventura spent yesterday morning touring Duluth's port facilities and visiting with local leaders at the DECC. In the afternoon he visited the Iron Range and met with conciliatory DFLers at the Hibbing Park Hotel.
