The Duluth School Board yesterday retained busing for kindergartners and first and second graders living less than a mile from school. The board had earlier eliminated transportation for those students as a cost-cutting move, but had later received numerous complaints from parents.
Richard LeRoy, Marjorie Caldwell's son by a previous marriage, testified yesterday that he saw Roger Caldwell in Colorado on the night Elisabeth Congdon and Velma Pietila were murdered in Duluth. Prosecutor John DeSanto challenged LeRoy's testimony in a persistent re-direct examination.

Rapidly rising water levels in a string of abandoned mine pits on the western Iron Range could endanger nearby communities in a few years, officials say. Water in the pits is rising at the rate of four to six feet per year.
A reunion is being planned for performers in the Duluth Figure Skating Club's annual Duluth Ice Follies shows between 1924 and 1965. Bernie Hoff Madich, one of the reunion's organizers, said yesterday more than 2,500 invitations have been sent to former skaters.
