Authorities do not suspect foul play was involved in the death of a person found in a storm sewer along Duluth’s Lakewalk last week.
Duluth police Lt. Mike Ceynowa said Monday that an initial investigation has not revealed any suspicious circumstances. The decomposed body was found Thursday afternoon by public works employees who were conducting routine maintenance at a public restroom facility in Canal Park.
Ceynowa said Monday that authorities believe the body may be that of someone previously reported missing, but police were still awaiting DNA evidence and did not yet have sufficient evidence to make an identification.
The remains were sent to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office in the Twin Cities for an autopsy to determine the identity and cause of death.
