Three vehicles were burned - two total losses - at Nuss Truck and Equipment in Proctor early Friday during a fire that a company manager said could have been worse were it not for a good Samaritan.

“They pretty much saved the day,” said office manager Cindy Jackson, of the person who spotted the fire while traveling along Interstate 35 and called 911. “It could have been a lot worse. I hope we find out who it was, because I’d like to thank them.”

Jackson said a parts delivery van and a service truck were total losses, while a semi trailer truck had its headlights and windshield damaged in the fire. The trucks were parked in a row on the back lot, she said.

Nuss is located on Westgate Boulevard in Proctor, and is prominently visible from the freeway.

The Proctor Fire Department responded to the fire at about 1:15 a.m.

Mark Casey, Proctor city administrator, said the investigation into the cause of the fire was ongoing. There was no damage estimate available Friday, he added.

The Proctor and Hermantown police departments also responded to the scene.
