Cleanup operations were launched yesterday in areas of north-central Wisconsin hit by a Fourth of July storm that wrecked buildings, toppled trees and brought down power lines. The storm left a path of destruction 14 miles wide in the Phillips area.
The son-in-law of Elisabeth Congdon was arrested early today and charged with the June 27 murders of the 83-year-old millionaire and her nurse. Roger Sipe Caldwell, 43, is the husband of Marjorie Congdon Caldwell, one of two adopted daughters of Elisabeth Congdon.

The Superior City Council was deadlocked this week between two finalists to fill a vacant 5th District seat. The two candidates agreed between themselves to break the deadlock with a coin toss, and the winner and new councilor is Richard Van Rossem.
More than 2,400 Cloquet High School graduates squeezed into town this weekend for the school's Centennial Celebration all-class reunion. It took three years to plan the four days of reunion festivities, which end today with a family picnic at Pinehurst Park.
