City of Duluth Water and Gas Department officials said yesterday they have an adequate supply of natural gas for the winter. They said they could handle another 1,200 customers in addition to the 8,000 they now serve.

Three West German tourists were thrown overboard yesterday when their 31-foot cruiser capsized just off the end of the Duluth Ship Canal. Staff of the Marine Museum witnessed the accident and called the Coast Guard, which arrived within minutes to rescue the three.

Despite criticism for his controversial radio show, Gov. Jesse Ventura continues to get high marks from Minnesotans. Ventura's 73 percent positive rating in the latest Minneapolis Star Tribune/KMSP-TV poll equals the highest rating among 11 Minnesota governors since the poll started in 1947.

Shannon Nelson, a 1997 graduate of UMD, is making her big-screen debut as Tess in the movie "Drop Dead Gorgeous," a comedy about a small-town beauty pageant. In her four years at UMD, Nelson, a theater major, performed in several productions each year.
