A memorial service has been scheduled for Jan. 10 for a family with Northland ties who died last weekend when their vehicle was swept away by floodwaters in Illinois.
Erin and Adam Schutt and their children - Logan, 13, Robbyn, 13, and Chad, 10, died after their car was swept away by a flash flood Saturday near Patoka, Ill., about 60 miles east of St. Louis. The family had somehow found itself on a rural road while traveling from Kentucky to Carlton to visit family, and the vehicle was washed off the roadway at a low-water crossing.
Erin Schutt, 37, whose maiden name was Nynas, grew up in Carlton County and attended Cloquet High School, according to her obituary.
"Anyone who met Erin, they were friends forever and she always had a smile on her face and she made everyone around her smile," the obituary states. "Her life was her kids, and family."
Erin Schutt and her two children, Robbyn and Chad, had moved several years ago to Kentucky, where her husband, Adam, and his son, Logan, were from.
The memorial service is set for 2-5 p.m. Jan. 10 at Nelson Funeral Care, 1004 Cloquet Ave. in Cloquet. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that memorial donations be sent to a fund set up at Wells Fargo bank.
Funeral services for the family also are set to take place in Kentucky in the next few days.
