A rental house in Hibbing sustained about $45,000 in fire, smoke and water damage in a fire early Friday, authorities reported.
The Hibbing Fire Department responded to a report of smoke billowing from the roof of a house located at 2320 Fifth Ave. W. at 5:27 a.m. Upon arrival, the fire crew confirmed a working structure fire. While conducting a search, firefighters found heavy fire near the ceiling of the bathroom.
It took crews about an hour to extinguish the majority of the fire, but they worked for several additional hours conducting overhaul and looking for hot spots.
The rental property was vacant and undergoing renovations for the next tenant, the fire department said. There were no reported injuries.
Foul play is not suspected, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Other agencies that responded to the fire included the Chisholm and Keewatin fire departments, Hibbing Police Department, Hibbing Public Utilities and Hibbing Public Works.
