A water main break caused a wet and icy mess in Duluth’s Central Hillside neighborhood on Friday morning.

The break — on Third Avenue East between Fourth and Fifth streets — was reported at about 8 a.m., the Duluth Fire Department reported. It sent streams of water down avenues and onto streets in the vicinity of Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center.

The water started freezing with temperatures just barely into the teens; plow trucks spread salt in the area help keep traffic moving safely. There were no immediate reports of damage.

Another water main break was reported in the Duluth Heights neighborhood at about 7:30 a.m.
