A 50-year-old man died in an accidental shooting Sunday in Gnesen Township north of Duluth, authorities said.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office reported that deputies were dispatched to a home on Arnold Road at about 6 p.m. Sunday on a report of an accidental shooting. The man, identified Monday as Daren Beede, told deputies he had dropped a gun, causing it to discharge. He was struck by a .22-caliber bullet in the lower abdomen.

Beede was treated by first responders but died from the injury. Foul play is not suspected, authorities said.

The incident remains under investigation.
