Eh?: County offers $30,000 for Oberstar name at airport
St. Louis County commissioners on Tuesday unanimously approved a $30,000 grant toward the effort to rename the terminal at Duluth International Airport after the late U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar.
Oberstar, Minnesota's longest-serving congressman, died in 2014. The Chisholm native was a longtime champion of public works projects, especially aviation projects, and helped win federal funding for the new Duluth airport terminal.
Monaco Air Foundation is in charge of collecting public and private donations to fund the renaming of the terminal. The city of Duluth also has pledged $30,000 toward the project.
The official renaming ceremony is expected to take place later this year.
