The South St. Louis County fair is underway in Proctor and will run through Sunday. Judging for various 4-H competitions began Tuesday night and the carnival begins today at 6 p.m.

Now in its 95th year, the county fair - one of three in St. Louis County - typically draws in 15,000 visitors, according to Frank Siiro, president of the fair board.

"It's a family fair. It's more of a younger crowd, younger kids' fair rather than the teenagers," he said.

Visitors to the fairgrounds off Boundary Avenue can expect many of the same events as last year; among the new events this year is an exotic petting zoo.

"I guess it's just a little bit of everything," Siiro said of the fair.

Music headliners include the Whitesidewalls on Thursday night, Todd Eckart on Friday night and Rage'N Country on Saturday night. Stock car races will take place Sunday evening.

The All American Lumberjack Show, Alfy's World of Robotic Puppets, Lake Superior Radio Control Club races and a variety of 4-H events also are scheduled to take place during the fair's run.
