A garage was destroyed by fire in Duluth's Fond du Lac neighborhood on Friday, but firefighters managed to save an adjacent structure.
The Duluth Fire Department reported that it responded to a fire at 1:49 p.m. at 12302 Minnesota Highway 23. Fire crews found fire and smoke coming from one of two neighboring garages. Oxygen and acetylene tanks in the garage were on fire and venting when firefighters arrived, authorities said. The garage owner, who had called 911, didn't report any injuries.
The fire was quickly extinguished; firefighters were able to save a neighbor's garage that was attached to the one on fire.
Traffic was stopped on Highway 23 while a water supply line crossed the highway.
Damage is estimated to be more than $50,000, the fire department reported. The fire was ruled accidental in nature.
