Former Lt. Gov. Yvonne Prettner Solon was added to the Duluth Seaway Port Authority board of commissioners on Monday as an appointee of Gov. Mark Dayton.

This is Prettner Solon’s second term on the Port Authority board, having served from 1990-94. In that instance, she was appointed by the Duluth City Council.

Prettner Solon is replacing Cal Larson beginning Feb. 14 for a six-year term.

“This is fantastic news not only for the Port Authority, but also for the city of Duluth and the Great Lakes maritime community,” said Vanta Coda, Port Authority executive director. “Yvonne’s political acumen and knowledge of the working waterfront are key attributes. Our staff and the other board members look forward to working with her in the months ahead.”

The board meets monthly and is made up of seven appointees from the governor, City Council and St. Louis board of commissioners.
