Bayfield County authorities will hold a community meeting in Iron River on Thursday ahead of the planned Rainbow Family gathering in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest July 1-7
With anywhere from 4,000 to 10,000 visitors expected around the town of Delta, the Bayfield County Sheriff's Office is expecting "significant impacts on traffic, communities, local resources, residents and visitors," according to a news release sent Wednesday.
"Local businesses can expect to see large numbers of Rainbow Family participants visiting stores and buying food and supplies along routes to the gathering site," wrote Jan Victorson, director of Bayfield County Emergency Management, in the release. "Several agencies are working together to prepare for any additional community needs and prevent any potential conflicts."
The 7 p.m. meeting will be held at the Iron River Community Center, 8275 E. Mill St., and officials will be on hand to answer questions and educate the public about the gathering.
The yearly gathering brings folks from around the country who set up a temporary village of sorts and pray for world peace.
