Minnesota Duluth won two matches Friday in the UMD Classic at Romano Gym to improve to 3-0 in the tournament.

UMD beat Lake Superior State 30-23, 30-20, 30-15 and Ferris State 30-28, 30-21, 30-15.

Against Lake Superior State, UMD's offense was led by Kari Wolford's 14 kills and 12 digs, while Vicky Braegelmann and Sarah Wyffels each had 11 kills. Junior setter Katie Gangelhoff had 47 set assists and Crystal Hoffrogge had 11 digs.

Against Ferris State, Braegelmann had 14 kills, while Wyffels and Lindsey Clairmont had 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Hoffrogge recorded 13 digs, while Gangelhoff had 39 set assists.

The No. 4-ranked Bulldogs (10-1) face West Texas A&M at 4:30 p.m. today at Romano Gym.

St. Scholastica drops two matches

St. Scholastica lost both of its games Friday at the Gustavus Classic Tournament.

In the first match, Carleton College (5-0) defeated St. Scholastica 30-20, 32-30, 28-30, 30-15. Amy Thompson had 15 kills and Kati Berscheit had 45 set assists for the Saints.

In the second match, Viterbo (5-3) defeated St. Scholastica 30-24, 30-21, 26-30, 30-26. Shawna Varichak had 16 kills, Berscheit had 45 set assists and Diana Moody had 32 digs for St. Scholastica (1-5).
