Two Duluth men have been charged with attempted robbery in connection with an incident last week in the Lincoln Park neighborhood.

Duluth police said Anthony Prout, 23, and Alexander Duncan, 19, are in St. Louis County Jail on charges of attempted aggravated robbery and conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery.

Duluth police were called to the 2800 block of West Second Street at 1:14 a.m. on Feb. 15 with a report of a robbery attempt.

The victim, a 32-year-old man, told police two men had approached him and asked for a cigarette and spare change. After the victim told the men that he had neither, one of them pointed a handgun at him and said he "must have some spare change for charity." The second said, "Then we should just steal his truck."

The victim was able to get away to his house, where he called 911.

Police found two men matching the victim's description in an alley in the 2800 block. They found a 9 mm handgun on Prout, and the victim positively identified both suspects.

Police noted that Prout and his handgun matched descriptions from another armed robbery in Lincoln Park in the early morning of Feb. 8. In that incident, the suspect got away with a couple of cigarettes.

Police said Prout admitted to that robbery when investigators interviewed him, and the victim positively identified Prout as the robber. Additional charges of aggravated robbery are pending against Prout in that incident, police said.
