The Boundary Waters Drug Task Force announced Wednesday it had arrested 13 people on charges of third-degree sales of a controlled substance.

The arrests in a sweep earlier this week resulted from an investigation into illegal sales of prescription medications that had come to light in northern St. Louis County. The task force reports there recently has been a drastic increase in the sale and abuse of prescription medications throughout the Iron Range.

Those arrested included five Chisholm men, ages 27, 31, 35, 37 and 44; a 28-year-old Chisholm woman; two Virginia women, ages 23 and 37; a 49-year-old Virginia man; a 22-year-old Aurora woman; and a 46-year-old Proctor man.

Officers from the Hibbing and Virginia police departments and the St. Louis County Sheriff's office all assisted in the sweep.
