Mariam Sarah Harnstrom of Hawthorne, Wis., formerly of Poplar, celebrated her 100th birthday with a party with family and friends at Middle River Health Center on Jan. 13.
Mariam was born Jan. 13, 1907, to Ella Malzahn in Babcock, Minn., and was adopted by Hannah and George W. McFarlin. She grew up in Superior and attended school in the East End area. She married Carl Harnstrom and resided in Superior, but later moved to Poplar. She was a member of the Eastern Star and was a homemaker and enjoyed having family and friends over for Swedish treats.
Her children are James Harnstrom and Josette Harnstrom (daughter-in-law), both of Lake Nebagamon; Jack and Imelda Harnstrom of Superior; the late George C. Harnstrom, and Jean and John Flynn.
