Western Lake Superior Sanitary District in Duluth is reminding residents to finish up their yard work before its yard waste compost site closes for the season after Monday.

The yard waste compost site, located off Interstate 35 at 27th Avenue West, will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Monday, according to a news release from WLSSD. Residents can dispose of leaves, pumpkins, garden leftovers and other yard debris for free.

Brush and branches can also be disposed of at the site for $10 per cubic yard of material.

Over the winter, yard waste will become WLSSD's Garden Green compost, Tim Lundell, WLSSD supervisor of solid waste services, said in the release.

The compost site will open briefly in December and January for holiday tree disposal. It will reopen in April, or when weather allows.
