A prayer vigil has been announced for 5-5:30 p.m. Wednesday on behalf of asylum seekers, refugees and the nation. The vigil will take place at Peace United Church of Christ, 1111 N. 11th Ave. E., according to the Interfaith Committee for Migrant Justice, the sponsoring agency.

The sanctuary will be open for personal prayer and meditation 30 minutes before and after the vigil. According to an announcement from the committee, the event is tied to the anniversary of the implementation of the "remain in Mexico" protocol, which sends asylum seekers back to Mexico to wait for their court dates.

A national organization, the Interfaith Immigration Coalition, is calling for the day to be observed as a day of prayer.
