Two Harbors Evangelical Free Church has recently become Anchor Point Community Church Two Harbors.
Back in February, leaders at the church reached out to Anchor Point about a recent church plant in Fredenberg near Island Lake. The Evangelical Free Church hoped to become Anchor Point's next church plant.
"I had multiple lunch an phone conversations with the leadership and what was formerly known as Two Harbors E-Free officially became Anchor Point Two Harbors in October," said Josh Major, the pastor at Anchor Point Community Church.
Anchor Point and the Evangelical Free Church are categorized as the same denomination, the Evangelilcal Free Church of America. Major and his staff of pastors travel between the Anchor Point locations.
"Anchor Point is really one church with one mission in multiple locations," he said. "We have a preaching team that rotates among the locations, campus coordinators and elders who help manage pastoral care with the pastors. It has worked out great. People really love the model."
Steve Sakkala, longtime member of the Evangelical Free Church, said the change will help the church work more efficiently.
"We'd come to a point where we were asking, 'Are we doing what God called us to do?'" Sakkala said. "We've had an awfully good past and have a good future. We'll be able to do the work better."
Speaking of work, the church has plans to renovate areas of the building in the near future and hopes to host Sunday services again. Currently regular services are hosted at 6 p.m. on Thursday evenings.
