Grab your shiny silver paper and glue stick: It’s smelt season. The annual Run, Smelt, Run! parade-fish feast is May 13, starting at 3:30 p.m. at the Aerial Lift Bridge. The parade ends at Zeitgeist Arts Cafe with a smelt fry and dance.
That gives smelt-curious bystanders about two weeks to get in on the flair. The Duluth Art Institute’s Lincoln Park branch will be the site of smelt art workshops, where smelt-minded artists of all levels can make sculptures, costumes - and fish on a stick.
There are seven workshops planned, starting Saturday 11 a.m.-2 p.m.. They’ll continue on following Saturdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., and Mondays and Thursdays from 6-8 p.m. up to the day of the event. Call (218) 370-8980 for more information, or visit the event’s Facebook page.
