She's not your typical singer-songwriter with a stringed instrument.

Madison-based Ida Jo grew up playing the violin in Duluth and now tours all over the Midwest with the instrument that sounds like an extension of her. The young musician is piling up accolades -- on top of many glowing reviews of her live shows this year, she was named the Wisconsin Area Music Industry female vocalist of the year.

Her live show is wonderfully unexpected. The real magic is in the combination of her Joss Stone-esque voice and her inventive violin playing. She produces an encompassing sound that, combined with accompaniment by composer Scott Lamps, can fill a performance space with an almost-orchestral presence.
