Lawrence “Nick” Lee, 91, of Knife River died Sunday July 3, 2016, at his home.He was born on June 9, 1925, to Christ and Mary (Elj) Lee in Knife River, where he was a lifelong resident of the same home. During World War II, Lawrence served in the Army in Europe. Returning to Knife River, he fished commercially with his father until his employment as a heavy equipment operator for Zenith Dredge Co. for several years and later Arrowhead Blacktop until his retirement. He was a jack of all trades, kept busy tinkering and enjoyed life, especially teasing his nieces.Lawrence was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Loyal of Moose and the Operating Engineers Local No. 49.He is preceded in death by his parents; sons Kevin and Brian Lee; brothers Ole and Walter Lee; sisters Celia Hanson, Elsie DeLong and Ella Larson; and nephew Ken Hanson.Lawrence is survived by his nephews Jim (Pat) Hanson, Robert “Butch” Lee and Christopher (Jane) Lee; nieces Sue (Delbert) Hubbartt, Ella (Lyle) Jackson, Annette (Curtis) Hammitt, Ione Cardinal, Marie “Bunny” Sautbine, Cathy Wilde and Lil Hanson; grandchildren Tony (Christine) Sande, Carissa and Amber Lee; and many great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews.VISITATION: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service Thursday July 7, 2016, at Knife River Lutheran Church in Knife River.
