North Woods' Nicole Olson is tied for third place in the Class A girls state golf tournament after shooting an opening-round 83 on Tuesday at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker, Minn.

Olson is four strokes behind leader Rachel Halvorson of Lac qui Parle Valley, while the Grizzlies are sixth as a team.

The top Northland girl in Class AA is Eveleth-Gilbert's Mollie Albrecht, who is tied for 12th after shooting 79 at Ridges at Sand Creek. in Jordan International Falls is fifth in the Class AA team competition.

In boys golf, Cloquet-Esko is tied for third in Class AA after shooting a 325 total in Becker. The top local golfer is Virginia's Bryce Wainio, who shot 77.

North Woods' Sam Frazee is ninth in Class A after shooting 79 to lead the Grizzlies to sixth place in the team competition.
