The Duluth Playhouse will be conducting a national search for an artistic director for the NorShor Theatre — a new position for the company that also operates out of the historic space and also has two stages at the Depot.

Executive director Christine Seitz will continue in both roles, she said, then shift away from the artistic side of the business once the new hire is in place.

The Playhouse will post the job opening in September, she said.

The artistic director will focus on programming, the creation of shows, and occasionally direct shows at the NorShor. Robert Lee and Amber Burns will maintain their roles as artistic directors at The Underground and the Playhouse Family Theatre, respectively.

Seitz said that adding staff has been a part of the plan since acquiring the theater in what is now billed as Duluth’s HART District.

The information was shared privately with local artists, she said.
