CBS3 will add an additional newscast in March, according to the station’s vice president and general manager, in an effort to be competitive with other local television news — including its building mates at KBJR-TV.
“People expect you to be there in the morning, at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., 10 p.m. and on the weekends,” said David Jensch.
The station will kick off its new 5 p.m. newscast on March 23, and it will include the established evening team of Kristen Vake, Anthony Matt and Dave Anderson.
They will also bring in additional staff, including a producer, Jensch said.
CBS3 relaunched under new ownership in 2016 — a move that included more staff and upgrades to the studio in the building the station shares with the local NBC affiliate. In the past three-plus years, CBS3 has reached full-service station status and competitive ratings, Jensch said.
“In today’s day and age, local reporting is more important than ever. CBS3’s 'Live at 5' newscast is our continued commitment to viewers who deserve fair and accurate reporting on what’s happening in their neighborhood,” said news director Kevin Jacobsen.
Until now, “Jeopardy!” has been the lead-in to the CBS3 newcast. The popular trivia game show will move to 4:30 p.m.
