MINNEAPOLIS - Cory Hepola, a Concordia College graduate from Perham, has been named the the new morning show host for WCCO Radio.

Hepola, a KARE-11 weekend anchor, will leave the TV station next month.

Hepola’s last day at KARE will be Jan. 6, and he’ll start at WCCO the next morning for the 9 a.m.-to-noon daily slot.

“Growing up in Perham, Minn., just seeing or hearing the iconic call letters — WCCO — gives me chills,” Hepola said in a news release. “The history here is amazing. For nearly 100 years, brilliant people have been laying a successful foundation of respect and trust at WCCO Radio. I’m thankful to be adding my voice, energy, and personality to this already incredibly talented staff.”

Hepola is replacing John Hines, who retired in September. “This is what we would call ‘a good get,’ ” Hines wrote Monday on Facebook. “I am proud that WCCO Radio has tapped Hepola to replace me. He is a good guy, he is ‘one of us’ and will be great. … Thanks for keeping the Good Neighbor spirit alive!”

Hepola worked at stations in Fargo, Houston and New York before taking a job at KARE 11 in 2015.
