Get dazzled by Liberace+Liza

David Saffert, a pianist who has found his niche channeling the late Liberace, returns to Duluth for a show with the Liza-like Jillian Snow Harris.

"A Liberace & Liza Christmas," a variety show including special guests — some real, some characters — is billed as a "a dazzling display of sequins and song."

Saffert performed locally before moving out west. When he isn't playing a Liberace estate-approved version of the performer, he plays for the Portland Opera, Oregon Ballet Theatre and more. Harris has been playing Liza Minnelli for years, first in New York City. She also has a Bernadette Peters, Eartha Kitt and Judy Garland in her repertoire.

Brett Dennen plays at Sound: Duluth

A Cali-bred folk pop singer who, in recent years, has gotten into fun-and-leisure themed tours plays a show Saturday at Sound.

Brett Dennen's most recent album "Por Favor," was released in 2016 and is described as being born of a "point when I wasn't feeling confident about myself."

Dennen plays at the former site of The Blind Pig and Tycoons, which is now under new ownership.

Roaming film series features avant garde picks

Saltless Sea Cinema, billed as a "roaming micro-cinema series" featuring "avant-garde, underground or just plain rad films and videos selected in secret under moonlight" plays Friday at Blush. This go-round, "Flickerings," includes works by Jason Coyle, Alan Gerlach, Laska Jimsen and Sam Hoolian. The finale, a classic avant garde film, will feature live musical accompaniment by Allen Killian-Moore Ensemble.

Arrowhead Chorale gets festive

Arrowhead Chorale opens the season with "Holiday Jubilations and Traditions," a concert featuring local bell choir StrikePoint, traditional carols and songs from France, Germany, England, Spain and Haiti. Meanwhile, the concert — directed by guests Bret Amundson and Sarah Ludwig — will be set against a backdrop of local handmade fiber artwork.

Mama's Stolen Horses plays CD release show

The Americana duo of Abby Jo and Krisoffer Robinthat spent a decade touring the country as glass blowers on the Ren Fest circuit before settling in Duluth are set to release an album.

Mama's Stolen Horses "Son of the Machine" plays a CD release show Friday. Feeding Leroy is also on the bill.
