People are invited to help create a large felted rug at the Duluth Folk School all day Saturday and Sunday.

Artist Mary Reichert is partnering with the Duluth Art Institute, Duluth Fiber Guild and the folk school to create a 6-by-7-foot rug that will be given to the Duluth Public Library. It is one of three in the state that Reichert is working on.

A class taught by Reichert will design the rug. The free event on Nov. 16-17 will give community members the chance to help felt the rug in the style that Reichert learned from studying the art in Kyrgyzstan. Soapy water is added to the rug, and people walk and stomp on it in bare feet. Stop by to help for any amount of time from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days.

The Duluth Folk School is at 1917 W. Superior St., housed alongside the Dovetail Cafe & Marketplace.
