Traffic clears after crashes tie up Duluth-Superior bridge traffic
Both the Blatnik and Bong bridges between Duluth and Superior are again fully open to traffic.
Because of icy conditions this morning, two minor accidents occurred on each of the bridges between about 7 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. this morning, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
While the bridges didn't close, traffic was forced into a single lane for vehicles traveling to Duluth on the Blatnik bridge, and to Superior on the Bong bridge. No one was injured in the four minor accidents. At least six cars were involved.
Most of the accidents were one vehicle spinning on ice and hitting guard rails, said a radio communications operator with the Minnesota State Patrol.
Minnesota Highway Patrol staff is asking commuters to slow down this morning as they travel over the Blatnik and Bong bridges.
Ice and "cars going too fast" caused a string of accidents that began before 7 a.m., according to the patrol.
