Jane Marie (Kuchta) Neumann passed away on July 30 at St. Eligius Health Center in Duluth. "Grandma Jane" was an abiding source of love and kindness to her family and she will live on in our hearts.

Jane was born in 1923 in Biwabik, Minn.

She grew up in Allen Junction, where she enjoyed the outdoors, especially outings on the Partridge River with her three brothers. She was a graduate of Aurora High School, where she played the cello in the orchestra. She lived for a time in Fairbanks, Minn., before moving to Duluth, where she worked at Decker's Art Gallery.

In Duluth she met Richard John Neumann, and they were married shortly after he returned from serving overseas in World War II. Her three brothers also served honorably overseas, and Jane was a lifelong patriot. Jane was a proud wife, mother and grandmother, and she gave her heart and soul to her family, helping us face our challenges as best she could. Her home was always open to her children's many friends. In her later years, Jane lived at the S-elect Apartments in Duluth, where she enjoyed an independent life, always happy to share her "million dollar view" with visitors.

She volunteered at the Duluth CHUM Food Shelf and she enjoyed exercising at the YMCA.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Rich; her children, Richard and Dori; and her brothers, Dick, Bob and Jack.

She is survived by her children Jim, Margaret, Barbara and John; her grandchildren Jesse, Bobby, Molly, Canaan (Rose), Celena, Kyra (Matt) and Jocelyn; her great-grandchildren Makena, Nicholas and Victoria, and family friend Catherine.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, in the Cremation Society of Minnesota at 4100 Grand Ave in Duluth. Donations may be made to the Duluth CHUM Food Shelf.
