It’s not very often that a fire requiring the response of emergency personnel produces no damage, but there was such an incident Sunday at the Duluth Landfill Superior in

Superior.

A Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railway employee noticed a fire burning in the construction material landfill shortly after 5:30 p.m., in what is known as the old Kimmes Landfill at 2512 Central Ave. The Superior Fire Department responded, and the Town of Superior assisted with the water supply. Landfill employees used heavy equipment to separate burning material from the pile. There was no damage, fire officials said, because the fire was limited to waste material. There also were no water run-off issues. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
