Local collegiate athletes win award

University of Minnesota Crookston announced Casey Cashman of Ashland and Jake Christopherson of Sturgeon Lake were two of 27 student-athletes who earned the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Fall All-Academic honors.

UMD Fighting Penguins take down NDSU for Elite 8 championship

The Fighting Penguins won the Elite 8 Tournament after defeating North Dakota State University of Fargo 43-21. During the tournament at Wayne (Neb.) Rugby Park, the University of Minnesota Duluth's division II rugby team first took down Colorado School of Mines of Golden in a 31-14 scramble. The Penguins ended their regular season with a clean record of 7-0.
